The Bead Expo

The Bead Society of Victoria's Bead Expo was on last weekend at the Kingston City Hall, and it was a boomer. It was super busy and I sold out on most of my new work!

Peter Gibson (aka The Tool Man) had a booth for the first time.

Gorgeous Belinda from Bellissimo Jewels

Beautiful Wendy from Beady Wendy (who incidentally always brings EVERYTHING with her to the Shows, including the kitchen sink).

Beaming Jacqui Campbell who brought along some BeadHopper necklaces from Corina's website, which sold like hotcakes.

So many beads and gemstones!

If you didn't get the chance to attend this years Show, make sure you come to next years.....8-10 November at the Kingston City Hall, Moorabbin.  Be there or be square!!

The Women's Diversification Expo

Last week I attended the Womens Diversification Expo. It was a free table event, just bring your own stock and table along. You also got fed morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.....which was the clincher that made me say yes!

Unfortunately, I only just made my petrol money back! So no luck sales wise, but it was a nice day.

I lucked out finding a babysitter for the day and had to bring Miss 4 along.  I needn't have worried as she was kept busy eating copious amounts of cake and burgers, petting llamas, and even made a friend for the day.

We watched Poh's Mum from Masterchef cook some gorgeous Malaysian dishes. Miss 4 wolfed down the rib with sweet sauce.

We also listened to to the author of the Blue Ribbon Cookbook and the founder of Madame Flavour Teas give talks on how they became successful in their businesses.

We also got lots of freebies from the stalls including piggie banks, DVD's, money budgeting planners, teenage anxiety kits (this might come in handy in a few years!), chocolates and lollies. Miss 4 was rapt.

This was the second Womens Diversification Expo in Campbells Forest, Victoria.

Double Helix Lustre Glass

From a couple of posts ago, I showed you all some new odd lots of silver glass from Double Helix. This is some of the purple lustre sparkles I played with last week.

The large dots are the sparkle lustres glass in purple.

Sparkle lustre is in the middle dots and top dots. These beads don't show it very well, but they look like teeny galaxies.

Overall, I am excited by what I can potentially get out of this glass. I am seriously kicking myself that I didn't get more of it, as it's now all sold out.

Here is another set of this glass as made by Aimee at Polychrome Beads:

Aren't they gorgeously divine? I love Aimee's beads!

Did anyone else grab some of this glass while it was available?

The Square Handmade Market

The Square Handmade Market is on again this Saturday the 15th at the Bendigo Town Hall.

I have a HUGE corner stall CHOCK full of brand new jewellery! I will also be bringing some handmade hair bows with me too....how fun! There's one of my beads in the photo above!

See you there from 10 - 4 pm.

Kirra Flame On 2012

Yesterday the Flaming Matildas went to see the 2012 Flame On exhibition at Kirra Gallery in Federation Square.

Christian Arnold was demonstrating in the morning.

Helen Peake was making Bullseye beads on a hothead.

Cas Davey's work

Christian Arnold.  I bought on of those awesomely cool eye bangles!

Large hollowed beads necklaces.

Richard Clements wall hangings.  I have been lusting after on of these for years.  Anybody want to buy me one?  I have a few of Richard's perfume bottles and love them all.  His daughter, Jemma, also is a glass artist and I have a gorgeous marbloe I got from her last time I was in Tasmania.

And I loved these chooks by Richard!  The oval one looks like she's laying an egg!

Laurie Young's Orchids

Christain Arnold's Star Wars looking creature.

Nautillus sculptures by Laurie Young.

If you have the chance to visit Kirra this week to see the exhibition, I highly recommend doing so.  The quality of work is amazing and it's mesmerising watching the demonstators.

Do You Want To See My Setup??

You don't need a fandangle Studio room custom built for you in the backyard.
SURE, it would be the bees knees and yep, I'll probably kill for one....but most of the time us beaders are stuck in the garage.

Wanna see my fancy setup?

Here is my burnt little desk in the corner, in amongst the paintcans and power tools.  Oh, and my ventilation?  The double garage door right next to my chair! ;)

The glass. Yep, I'm a glass ho. And that's not even all of it....I have another 30 kilos stashed away in a box.

My Paragon Bluebird XL kiln. Big enough for a whole day's beadmaking, and even then it won't get filled up. It also gets hot enough to fuse, if I ever want to venture into that one day.

I have a couple of torches and currently I have the CC hooked up. It runs on a 5 LPM oxygen concentrator and a gas bottle.

The graphite shapers, imprinters and general tools.

Frit, leaf, foil, CZ's and powders.

Last but certainly not the least, most of the presses.

Got any questions? Please comment!

I would also love to see photos of other lampworker's work spaces.  If you have any photos online, pls point me in the direction of them.

Glass Porn!

I'm excited by my latest purchase of silver glass from DoubleHelix because it contains test batches! And something else that is making my heart race.....

Opaque Sparkle Lusters!!  ARGH!!!!! Look at those sparkly rods!

I also stocked up on Zephyr, the best Clear that I can find on the market. I usually get the 'seconds' lots from Doublehelix as I really cant see the difference between them and the 'proper' lots. More Helios, Olympia Rain and of course, the most Fantabulous glass ever created....Terra.

I have been on a 2 week hiatus from beadmaking, self imposed, as I bead everyday leading up to a major Bead Show. Since the next one is not until November, I gave myself a couple of weeks rest. Can't burn out the MOJO! But now that this glass has turned up....I may just turn on the torch a little earlier than planned.

Stay tuned!

P.S, do my photos fit into the left column correctly without riding over into the right hand column?  On my monitor they look fine but I've had an email from somebody saying that the photos are too big....please leave a comment and let me know!

Melbourne Bead and Gem Show

Well, I've just spent 3 days in Melbourne at the Bead and Gem.  Unfortunately attendance was extremely low....I don't think anybody knew it was on due to it not being advertised.

I did get to catch up with my beady pals tho which was super fun!

Looking a little tired.

Miss 11 helped me out for 3 days. She also spent what profits I made on beads and made a heap of jewellery for herself and friends at school!

Hello Georgina from Georgie Girl Beads! Georgie puts my stark white simple display to shame.

And there's Helen from Fields of Clover peeking out!

Pauline Delaney demonstrated beadmaking several times a day.

My next outlet will be The Square Handmade Market on the 15th of Sept at the Bendigo Town Hall. Then at Kingston City Hall in November for The Bead Expo. Mark it in your iphones girls!
